Charoite is named for the Chara River in Russia. It has only ever been found in one location in Siberia. Purple with a pearly luster, it ranges in quality and the most precious specimens exhibit a beautiful swirling, fibrous appearance - sometimes chatoyancy as well. Color saturation is also important with this stone - the best charoite is intensely purple.
The large charoite in this pair of earrings is exquisite quality. It was difficult to photograph these because those lovely swirling patterns made it hard for the camera to focus! The purple kite-shaped stones are topped with natural Herkimer diamonds. Please note that despite their name, Herkimer diamonds are double-terminated quartz, and not the same mineral as a diamond. These earrings are fit for a very special occasion, or just a day out with friends. They are 2 and 1/8” in length, including the hand-forged ear wires. These are sterling silver.
