The “Iris” earring line keeps the focus on the stone with a simple “stirrup” component from which the stones are suspended. This pair is 14kt gold-fill and the metal has been textured for sparkle and interest. The stones are bluish-green chrysocolla in an organic faceted nugget cut, and each stone’s cut is unique. This pair is 1 and 5/16” long including the handmade ear wires – perfect for daily wear!
About the stones:
Chrysocolla gets its cyan/blue/green color from copper – it contains the copper hydroxide mineral speriniite. Otherwise, its’ structure has been questioned, although sometimes it grows with quartz or contains chalcedony. Chrysocolla can rate anywhere from 2-7 on the Mohs scale – a huge range, due to varying silica content. It is often confused for turquoise due to its’ color.
What does gold-filled mean?
Gold-filled components start with a base metal core and have a (usually 14kt) real gold coating, bonded to the core with heat and pressure. The component must be at least 5% gold by weight. This is NOT the same as gold plating. Unlike plated gold, gold-filled items are likely to last a lifetime and the gold will not wear off.
