Fluorite is a special mineral that can sometimes form octahedrons – crystals with eight sides. The term “fluorescence” is named for fluorite – the mineral can often fluoresce under UV light, when it contains certain impurities. Fluorite can be many colors, based on the impurities it contains. Color zoning and banding are common.
Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic and the best specimens are a beautiful baby blue, reminiscent of sparkling waters.
