Emerald is one of the four cherished precious stones – it is the mineral beryl (like aquamarine and morganite), colored green by deposits of chromium. The Brazilian emeralds in this necklace are a good size (the center stone is about 8x12mm) and a deep, rich green. They have a rustic lozenge cut. I don’t work often with emerald, because good emerald can be quite cost prohibitive, as I’m sure you can guess. But one of my favorite stone vendors got these in and I could not pass them up! In fact, I initially only bought a few, but upon seeing them in person, I had to go back for more to make this necklace.

The emeralds are hand-wrapped and hang from an elegant long-and-short chain. The necklace is 17” with a 2” extender. The clasp is handmade, and at the end of the extender chain I’ve added two more teeny emeralds. This necklace has a fairly simple design, but these emeralds are so special, I had to use them in a way that let them truly shine. I will be a bit sad to see these go, but I know they will find an excellent home!

What does gold-filled mean?

Gold-filled components start with a base metal core and have a (usually 14kt) real gold coating, bonded to the core with heat and pressure. The component must be at least 5% gold by weight. This is NOT the same as gold plating. Unlike plated gold, gold-filled items are likely to last a lifetime and the gold will not wear off.
